Finau finished in a share of fifth place after his four-under 66 in the final round of the Travelers Championship.
Finau had a share of the lead after a birdie on the par-4 15th hole, but it all fell apart with a terrible swing at 16 which ultimately led to a double-bogey. Finau certainly played well enough to have a chance to win this week, but execution is still something he needs to work on in the clutch. He ranked second in SG: Around-the-Green, but lost strokes off the tee. Finau is a former winner of next week's Rocket Mortgage Classic, but he is electing to skip it this year.
Finau fired a three-under 67 on Sunday to notch a share of third place at the U.S. Open.
Finau was right in the mix all week before a triple-bogey at the short par-4 13th hole in round three. It looked to take all the steam out of him, but Finau kept battling even starting with bogeys on two of the first four holes on Sunday. He made an eagle at the par-5 5th hole and then added birdies on 10, 13 and 18. You would think Finau's time would come at majors as this is now his 11th top-10 finish in 33 starts. He will look to keep rolling next week at the Travelers Championship.
Finau closed with a one-over 73 on Sunday at the Memorial Tournament to finish in a tie for eighth place.
Finau's 17 birdies were tied for the second-most in the field, but he also made 12 bogeys and two doubles that kept him from truly contending for the win. Finau was top-15 for the week in both SG: Approach and SG: Around-the-Green. Those are two things that will really help him out at Pinehurst next week. Finau has been really consistent in 2024 with nine top-25 finishes, but he only has one top-five result.
