Spieth carded a one-under 70 in the final round of the John Deere Classic to finish in a tie for 26th place
Spieth's up-and-down season continued over the weekend as he failed to keep pace with a field despite shooting a 63 in the third round. Although he started strong with two Top 10 finishes to begin the year, he's suffered through two months of mediocrity. Although he continues to drive the ball reasonably well, Spieth ranks 155th in Scrambling and is currently 71st in Proximity with an average first-putt distance of 38 feet.
Spieth has committed to playing in the 2024 John Deere Classic, Jonathan Turner of OurQuadCities.com reports.
Spieth is a two-time winner of the John Deere Classic, his first coming at the age of 19 in 2013. He culminated an excellent 2015, featuring a Masters and U.S. Open win, by winning his second John Deere Classic. With Spieth's entrance into the tournament in 2024, he will be looking for his third win, potentially reversing his recent struggles in the process.
Spieth carded a one-over 71 in the final round of the U.S. Open to finish in a tie for 41st place.
Although Spieth gained a little ground Sunday with a decent total in tough conditions, he logged another underwhelming finish. Although he has three top-10 finishes in 2024, he's failed to place better than 29th over his last seven tournaments. Although he's doing fairly well in the tee box, he ranks 108th in SG: Approach to Green and 72nd in GIR%. He'll need to refine his iron game to break the Top 50 in the FedEx Cup rankings.
Spieth fired a two-over 72 in the final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge to finish in a tie for 37th place.
Spieth missed the cut at the Colonial for a second consecutive year. He grew up near Colonial and has won two events there, so his recent results are puzzling after contending almost every time he plays the event. It's a study in contrasts for the pro, who is faring reasonably well on easier tracks but is struggling on the tougher courses this season. Missing the cut with a 79 and a 74 at the Masters was a low point for the pro, and he's struggled to contend since.
Spieth shot a two-over 73 in the final linground of the PGA Championship, finishing in a tie for 43rd place.
Although Spieth started the year with two top-10 finishes over his first three tournaments, he's struggled to contend since. Although his putting has generally been strong, he ranks 135th in SG: Approach to Green and 140th in Scrambling, two categories that are critical to success on Tour.
