Cantlay (undisclosed) is listed in the field for The Open Championship this week.
Cantlay withdrew prior to his most recent expected start at the John Deere Classic due to an undisclosed injury, but he'll tee it up this week at Royal Troon for the final major championship of the season. He closed out the month of June with back-to-back top-5s at the U.S. Open and the Travelers Championship, notably gaining a collective 10.1 strokes putting across these eight rounds.
Cantlay announced on X that he sustained an injury while training for the John Deere Classic.
Cantlay was a surprise early WD this week in a tournament he entered as the betting favorite for. He said in his post that after talking it over with his team he felt it was best to WD this week out of an abundance of caution. It doesn't sound like anything too serious, but there's probably a good chance we don't see Cantlay tee it up again until the Open Championship in a couple weeks.
Cantlay has withdrawn from the John Deere Classic, according to the PGA.
The PGA Tour's announcement did not disclose the reason as to why Cantlay withdrew from the John Deere Classic. Regardless, him not participating in it has resulted in Russell Knox entering the field. Cantlay was the clear betting favorite this week prior to withdrawing, so it will certainly shift the odds quite a bit. He will now place his focus on the Open Championship in a few weeks.
Cantlay closed with a five-under 65 in the final round of the Travelers Championship to finish in a share of fifth place.
Cantlay was a popular choice amongst DFS players this week having finished in the top-15 in his last six starts at TPC River Highlands and posting a T3 last week at the U.S. Open. Cantlay had another chance to win this week, but just stumbled playing the last four holes in one-over-par to fade back to T5. Cantlay led the field in birdies this week with 25 and was also third in SG: Putting. He is not playing next week, but will play the upcoming John Deere Classic.
