Billy Horschel Billy Horschel
RANK 33 | OWGR 3.06
Horschel (illness) is listed in the field for this week's Wyndham Championship.
Horschel withdrew prior to his first-round tee time at the 3M Open due to an illness after placing runner-up at The Open Championship, but he'll return to action this week at Sedgefield Country Club where he's finished T11 or better in five of his last seven outings here. Horschel will look to maintain his top-30 position in the FedExCup standings, currently sitting 27th.
Horschel (undisclosed) has withdrawn from the 3M Open prior to his first round tee time, PGA Tour Communications reports.
Horschel held the 54-hole lead at the Open Championship last week before ultimately finishing in a share of second place. He made the trip back over the U.S. and was the first player on the range Tuesday morning. It's unclear what caused Horschel to withdraw, and it definitely hurst those in DFS who wanted to ride the hot hand again. His next opportunity to play will be the Wyndham Championship in a couple weeks.
Horschel finished in a share of second place after a three-under 68 in the final round of the Open Championship.
Horschel was looking to win his first major at the age of 37. He came into the final round with a one-shot advantage and birdied the first hole right out of the gate. He added two more birdies against three bogeys over the next nine holes, but just got stuck on a par train on the back-nine while Xander Schauffele was taking this tournament. Horschel did close with birdies on the final three holes to secure a T2 finish and ensure spots in the Masters and Open Championship next year. The Floridian struggled with majors earlier in his career, but he seems to have found something that works. There's nothing really for Horschel to hang his head about. Schauffele just put together an incredible Sunday performance. Horschel is listed in the field for next week's 3M Open, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he elected to take next week off and process everything.
