Shane Lowry Shane Lowry
RANK 32 | OWGR 2.88
Lowry finished in a tie for ninth place at the TOUR Championship after a three-under 68 in the final round.
Lowry hit the second-most fairways in the field, but was only middle of the pack in SG: Off-the-Tee. He only made four bogeys over 72 holes, but just did not make enough birdies to challenge some of the top contenders this week. This was Lowry's first appearance at the TOUR Championship. His season was highlighted with a win with Rory McIlroy at the Zurich Classic amongst seven total top-10s. Lowry will now shift his focus to the DP World Tour where he will hope to win the Irish Open in a couple weeks.
Lowry carded a two-day total of two-under at the Wyndham Championship to miss the cut by two shots.
Lowry was unable to get much momentum going at Sedgefield CC with just five birdies over 36 holes to miss the cut by two. He was mostly let down by his play on the greens as he lost 3.3 strokes putting. It's Lowry's first missed cut since his first event of the year, and he'll head into the FedExCup Playoffs in 10th place.
Lowry closed with a three-under 68 to finish in solo sixth place at the Open Championship on Sunday.
Lowry looked to be in command of things early on Saturday when he took a two-shot lead into the weekend. Things seemed to fall apart with a double-bogey on the short par-3 8th hole combined with five bogeys on the back-nine coming home to fall down the leaderboard. It was tough for everyone else as well on Saturday, so he was only three shots adrift of the lead going into Sunday. Lowry showed the form he flashed earlier in the week when he poured in four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the front-nine on Sunday. Unfortunately, he just couldn't get anything else to fall until he made a long one on 17 for birdie, but at that point Xander Schauffele was long gone. Lowry will have to wait until next year to get his hands on the Claret Jug once again, but the good news is the 2025 Open Championship will be at Royal Portrush again, the site of his 2019 triumph.
