McIlroy recorded a four-over 74 on Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to finish tied for 68th place.
McIlroy struggled mightily over the final three days, failing to record a round better than 73 and ultimately beat just one golfer for the week. The normally reliable ball striker lost over seven strokes off-the-tee and on approach combined. McIlroy sits fifth in the FedExCup Standings, but his inconsistent nature as of late leaves some cause for concern.
McIlroy recorded a two-day total of 11-over at The Open Championship to miss the cut by five strokes.
McIlroy struggled to get anything going at Royal Troon with just three birdies across 36 holes to badly miss the cut. He struggled mightily with his irons and on the greens, ranking 115th in SG: Approach and 126th in putting. It was a surprising result for McIlroy, who had not missed a cut since the 2023 Masters Tournament.
McIlroy posted a share of fourth place at the Genesis Scottish Open after a two-under 68 in the final round.
McIlroy had putted well all year, but this week it was the reason he didn't really challenge for the victory at 63rd in SG: Putting. The good news is that he was second in both SG: Off-the-Tee and SG: Around-the-Green. Overall, it was a good bounce back for McIlroy following the massive disappointment of missing a pair of short putts late that cost him a U.S. Open. He will be on a revenge tour next week at the Open Championship looking to end his major drought. McIlroy owns seven top-six finishes at the Open.
