Adam Scott Adam Scott
RANK 65 | OWGR 1.88
Scott finished in solo second at the Genesis Scottish Open after shooting a three-under 67 in the final round.
It looked like it was going to be Scott's day. He carded seven birdies against two bogeys and a double to post 17-under-par. What he couldn't account for was Robert MacIntyre playing the last three holes in three-under to snatch it right from his grasp. While disappointing, this was still a big week for Scott who hadn't finished top-10 since the WM Phoenix Open. He led the field in birdies at the Scottish Open and will hope to feed off the momentum going into the Open Championship next week.
Scott failed to make it through U.S. Open final qualifying in Springfield, Ohio and is danger of ending his streak of playing in 91 consecutive majors.
Scott looked to be in a good spot after firing a 64 in the first round, but struggled down the stretch of his second round and posted seven-under-par. There were only four spots available for 64 players in Springfield and he was fortunate that he countryman Cameron Davis also bogeyed his final hole to allow Scott to get a chance to advance in a playoff. Both players made birdies on the first playoff hole, including a chip-in from Scott. Things would end on the third playoff hole when Davis stuffed his approach within a few feet and Scott was unable to match. Scott would have certainly loved to end the stress on Monday and secure his place at Pinehurst, but he could potentially still make it in next week if he stays at No. 60 in the OWGR after the Memorial Tournament this week, which Scott is not playing. He is also likely a highly ranked alternate and could make it in that way as well. Scott has played in every major championship since the 2001 U.S. Open.
Scott fired a one-over 71in the final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge to finish in a tie for 12th place.
Scott sprung back to life after a disappointing showing in the PGA Championship. Finding the putting surface continues to be a nagging issue for Scott, ranking 120th in GIR% for the year. He didn't fare much better this week, but he recorded one of the week's few eagles in the first round.
