Tom Kim Tom Kim
RANK 18 | OWGR 3.35
Kim fired a six-under 64 on Sunday at the Genesis Scottish Open to finish tied for 15th place.
Kim was never in contention but that didn't stop him from closing with his lowest round of the tournament that was highlighted by a bogey-free back-nine with five birdies. He had a solid week with his ball striking, ranking seventh in SG: Off-the tee and 14th in approach. Kim continues to have a solid summer with three top-15s over his last six starts.
Kim posted a two-day total of three-under at the Rocket Mortgage Classic to miss the cut by one stroke.
Kim showed signs of fatigue playing for a ninth week in a row, posting rounds of 73-68 to narrowly miss the weekend. He dropped six shots over 36 holes at Detroit Golf Club, which was yielding low scores. Kim lost over two strokes on approach and hit just 61 percent of greens for the week. It's his first missed cut since the Valero Texas Open in early April.
Kim lost in a playoff to Scottie Scheffler after a four-under 66 in the final round of the Travelers Championship.
Tom Kim was the solo leader after rounds one, two and three. He had a solid showing on Sunday, but when you are going up against a great field of players, and in particular the No. 1 player in the world, solid just isn't going to cut it. Kim made a clutch birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Scheffler, but chunked a lob wedge in perfect position on the first playoff hole and the high spin led to the ball plugging and eventually leading to a bogey. Kim was seeking his fourth PGA Tour victory before the age of 23, but it just wasn't to be on Sunday. He still locked up a spot for South Korea in the Olympics next month and before that will hope to have a good showing at the Open Championship where he finished T2 a year ago.
