Robert MacIntyre Robert MacIntyre
RANK 44 | OWGR 2.24
MacIntyre fired a three-under 67 on Sunday to win the Genesis Scottish Open by one stroke over Adam Scott.
MacIntyre was so close last year to winning his national open, only for it to be spoiled by Rory McIlroy birdieing the last two holes. This year the Scot put together a heroic finish that included an eagle at the par-5 16th and a birdie on the par-4 18th to seal the victory. MacIntyre got his PGA Tour card via the DP World Tour Race to Dubai and has now turned that into a pair of PGA Tour wins as a rookie. He has all kinds of momentum going to Royal Troon next week to try to win the Claret Jug.
MacIntyre is no longer listed in the field for the Memorial Tournament this week.
MacIntyre indicated in his winner's interview on Sunday that he wanted to return home to Scotland to celebrate his first PGA Tour win with friends and family. He was at the top of the Aon Swing 5 standings to make this week's Signature Event, but he will forfeit his spot and Davis Thompson, who was No. 6 in the Swing 5 rankings, is now listed in the field. MacIntyre will return to the states for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst next week
MacIntyre shot 16-under-par to win the RBC Canadian Open by one stroke on Sunday
MacIntyre struggled throughout much of his first season full-time on the PGA Tour, but he had started to find form the last couple months with top-15s in three of his last five starts. Everything was starting to come together for the Scot and after three rounds in Canada he found himself with a four-shot lead. There were a couple points were it looked like it was starting to slip away from MacIntyre, but he held steady and made some good swings down the stretch to close out his first win on the PGA Tour. His ball-striking was solid, but not typically what we see in PGA Tour winners. He just had an unbelievable week on the greens where he gained over 11 strokes on the field. MacIntrye will now be in the final two Signature Events of the season and the U.S. Open in a couple weeks.
