Scheffler defeated Tom Kim in a playoff to win the Travelers Championship after a five-under 65 in the final round.
Scheffler was able to put the disappointment of not contending at Pinehurst at the U.S. Open last week aside and win his sixth event of the season. Not only are they just wins, they have been wins against the best fields. He now has won four of the eight Signature Events along with THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters. We aren't even to July yet and Scheffler has put together a historic season. It's unclear if he will tee it up again before the Open Championship, but he will be the favorite for some time to come whenever he is in the field. With just one more major left, you'd have to think all his focus is giving himself a chance to win at Royal Troon on Sunday.
Scheffler finished in a tie for 41st place at the U.S. Open after rounds of 71-74-71-72.
It was an almost unfathomable week for the runaway No. 1 player in the world who was coming off his fifth win of the year last week. Scheffler struggled out of the gate with his driving and then virtually did not make a single putt all week. He made only four birdies all week and will need to regroup and get this performance out of his system. This was shades of some of his putting performances in the middle of last season. Scheffler will hope to correct the issues at the Travelers Championship next week.
Scheffler posted a final round two-over 74 to claim the victory at the Memorial Tournament by one shot.
Scheffler began the day with a four-shot lead but wasn't able to get much going early with two front-nine bogeys to see his lead narrowed to two. A clutch 15-foot par putt on the par-3 16th hole turned out to be critical, as he ultimately sealed the one-shot win with a four-foot par putt on the 72nd hole. Scheffler dominated with his iron play, leading the field in SG: Approach and greens in regulation for the week. It's his first win at Muirfield Village and fifth victory over his last eight starts.
Scheffler's incident early last Friday morning at Valhalla is still being investigated by the Louisville Police Department, John Schwarb of SI.com reports.
There were reports that the charges against Scheffler would be dropped, one of which was a felony charge for second degree assault of a police officer. It nearly caused Scheffler to miss his second-round tee time, but he returned to the course and was able to finish off the week with a solid T8. Scheffler's arraignment was initially scheduled to be this Tuesday, but it was pushed back to June 3. There is limited evidence available since the officer's bodycam video was not turned on, but all signs point to this being just a big misunderstanding in a chaotic situation after a security guard was hit by a bus and killed just an hour before the Scheffler incident. Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel hoped to have a new update on Thursday in regards to this situation. As for now Scheffler will look to get back in the win column at one of his hometown events, the Charles Schwab Classic at Colonial.
Scheffler arrived at Valhalla and is warming up for his second round, according to Golf Digest.
Scheffler, per ESPN.com, was arrested Friday morning while attempting to drive around an accident scene that resulted in a pedestrian fatality. He was arrested on "charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic" but was released at 8:40 am ET and "arrived less than an hour before he was scheduled to tee off."

There was a serious accident just outside Valhalla Golf Club at 5 a.m. EDT, according to ESPN, resulting in a pedestrian fatality. Scheffler was arrested later Friday morning when attempting to drive around the accident scene. He was charged with several offenses, including second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving and criminal mischief in the third degree. Scheffler was released from custody and is expected to arrive at Valhalla just before his 10:08 a.m. ET tee time for the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship.
