Scheffler carded a two-under 68 in the final round of the TOUR Championship to finish in a share of fourth place.
Scheffler had been by far the best player on the PGA Tour in 2025, but with the format change this year he began the TOUR Championship with no advantage in his quest to win back-to-back FedExCup titles. Scheffler battled hard this week, but it was quite clear that he just did not have his best stuff. He was mid-pack in SG: Off-the-Tee, SG: Approach and SG: Putting, three areas he has been really strong in most of this year. Scheffler made up for it by ranking second in SG: Around-the-Green, but a T4 and four shots back of the lead was the best he could do after 72 holes around East Lake. Scheffler closes the season having posted 21 consecutive rounds in the 60s and 14 straight top-8 finishes. He claimed five total victories including a pair of major championships and never finished outside the top-25 in any event. Scheffler said that he will play the Procore Championship in a couple week's time to help prepare for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.
Scheffler's regular caddie Ted Scott will be back on the back this week at the TOUR Championship, PGATour.com reports.
Scott has been off Scheffler's bag since the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship due to an unexpected private family matter. Scheffler used fill-in caddie and good friend Brad Payne for the final round in Memphis, and then Michael Cromie for all four rounds at the BMW Championship, who is Chris Kirk's normal caddie. Clearly Scheffler and Cromie figured out some good vibes as they came back to win at Caves Valley last week. Nevertheless, Scheffler and Scott have a tremendous relationship winning 17 times together, including four majors. Scheffler has been the best player in golf in 2025, but he'll want to put it all together for one more week and try to defend his FedExCup title from 2024 at East Lake.
Scheffler closed with a three-under 67 on Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to finish 15-under and in a share of third place.
Trailing by two heading into the final round, Scheffler climbed into a share of the lead with a birdie on the par-5 third hole. He was in contention late on the back-nine, but a poor tee shot on the par-4 15th led to a bogey and despite birdies on two of the final three holes, he came up one short of a playoff. Scheffler was led by his ball striking, ranking second for the week in SG: Off-the-tee, 11th in approach and T4 in GIR. It's his ninth top-5 of the year and 12th straight top-10 finish.
Scheffler fired a final round three-under 68 to capture the victory at The Open Championship by four strokes.
Scheffler had a four-shot lead to start the day and got off to a great start with three birdies in the first five holes as his lead grew to eight strokes. Despite a double bogey on the par-4 eighth hole, the outcome was never in doubt as he went bogey-free on the back-nine and coasted to a comfortable four-shot win. Scheffler was led by his iron play as he led the field for the week in SG: Approach and was also second in putting. It's Scheffler's fourth win of the year and second major championship, and he's now only missing the U.S. Open to complete the career grand slam.
