Scheffler finished in solo fourth place at the FedEx St. Jude Championship after a four-under 66 in the final round.
Scheffler came into the week off winning gold at the Paris Olympics trying to get his FedExCup chase off to a strong start in the first of three legs. Scheffler had never posted a top-10 at TPC Southwind, but he was in the mix all weekend. He carded five birdies against just one bogey on Sunday, but it just wasn't enough to track down Hideki Matusyama. Scheffler lost a little ground to Xander Schuaffele who finished T2, but another showing like this at the BMW Championship next week should wrap up that No. 1 seed at the TOUR Championship and that two-stroke lead over second.
Scheffler fired a final round nine-under 62 to claim a Gold Medal at the Olympics by one stroke.
Scheffler began the day four shots off the lead but was able to get off to a great start with three consecutive birdies to trim the deficit. He caught fire on the back-nine, carding clutch birdies on 14-17 to take the lead, ultimately posting a bogey-free round to win by a single shot. Scheffler did it despite losing strokes on the greens, as he led the field by gaining over 10 shots on approach. It's Scheffler's seventh victory over his last 12 starts.
Scheffler defeated Tom Kim in a playoff to win the Travelers Championship after a five-under 65 in the final round.
Scheffler was able to put the disappointment of not contending at Pinehurst at the U.S. Open last week aside and win his sixth event of the season. Not only are they just wins, they have been wins against the best fields. He now has won four of the eight Signature Events along with THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters. We aren't even to July yet and Scheffler has put together a historic season. It's unclear if he will tee it up again before the Open Championship, but he will be the favorite for some time to come whenever he is in the field. With just one more major left, you'd have to think all his focus is giving himself a chance to win at Royal Troon on Sunday.
