Sam Burns Sam Burns
RANK 17 | OWGR 3.55
Burns fired a seven-under 65 in the final round of the BMW Championship to climb into a share of second place.
Burns' 65 was the best round of the day, and it helped him gain 18 spots on the leaderboard from where he began the final round. He carded eight birdies against a lone bogey on the par-5 14th hole. Burns ranked second for the week in SG: Putting. This finish moves him up to ninth in the FedExCup standings and means he will begin the TOUR Championship at four-under-par and six strokes back of No. 1 seed Scottie Scheffler. This finish could also go a long way in helping Burns earn a captain's pick for the Presidents Cup next month.
Burns finished in a share of fifth place at the FedEx St. Jude Championship following a three-under 67 on Sunday.
Burns made two eagles and 22 birdies for the week, but 11 bogeys and a double-bogey was just too much to keep up with some of the top players in front of him. Burns was second in SG: Putting, but 53rd in SG: Off-the-Tee. If he wants to get back in the win column, his ball-striking needs to be just a little more consistent. Burns is now 18th in the FedExCup standings and in good position to make it back to East Lake.
Burns shot a two-under 69 in the final round of the 3M Open to finish in a tie for 12th place.
Burns made 24 birdies for the week which was second-best in the field. The bad news was that he also had a triple and quadruple-bogey on the card this week. Turn those both into bogeys and he would have been right there challenging for the win at the end. Burns continues to putt great, but just needs to be a little better with the irons if he wants to get back in the win column before the season ends.
