Schauffele fired a seven-under 63 on Sunday to finish in a share of second place at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Schauffele needed a great round on Sunday and some help to catch Hideki Matsuyama. He got both of that with his bogey-free 63 and Matsuyama making some mistakes on the back-nine. Schauffele also nearly holed his pitch shot from off the green for birdie to post 16-under. In the end that wouldn't have even been enough with Matsuyama making birdie on the final two holes to post 17-under. Schauffele picks up some, but not much ground in the points standings against Scottie Scheffler, who was right behind in solo fourth. Schauffele will look for his third win of the season next week at the BMW Championship.
Schauffele carded a two-over 73 in the final round of the Olympics to finish tied for ninth place.
Schauffele began the closing round tied for the lead alongside Jon Rahm, but he struggled mightily down the stretch with zero birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey over the closing seven holes to fall out of contention for a medal. He didn't have his best ball striking week but did lead the field in SG: Around the green. Schauffele will head into the FedExCup Playoffs in second place.
Schauffele fired a six-under 65 on Sunday to win the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon by two strokes.
Schauffele put together one of the most impressive final rounds at a major in recent memory, which included going four-under on the brutal back-nine at Royal Troon to secure the Claret Jug. Schauffele was in the mix all week, but the putts just weren't quite falling yet. On Sunday he combined incredible control off the tee and into the greens with some great rolls that found the bottom of the cup. After people came into the year saying "can you win the big one," the San Diego native has certainly put those questions to bed with major wins at the PGA Championship and now the Open Championship. Schauffele will now get ready to defend his golf medal at the Paris Olympics and look to strengthen his case against Scottie Scheffler for Player of the Year.
Schauffele had to settle for a share of 13th place after an even-par 70 in the final round of the Travelers Championship.
Schauffele was making putts left and right through the first three rounds leading the field in SG: Putting, but things seem to fall off on Sunday. He made a few good ones early and grabbed a share of the lead after two birdies in the first six holes, but then made bogeys on 7 and 9 and then all pars on the back-nine when the rest of the field were rolling in birdies. Schauffele remains second in the FedExCup standings, but saw the gap get even bigger with Scottie Scheffler picking up his sixth win of the season. Schauffele will take some time off and return for the Scottish Open and then Open Championship in a few weeks.
