Schmid jumped into solo fifth place after firing a nine-under 62 in the final round of the Black Desert Championship.
Schmid's 62 tied for the low round of the day, which was highlighted by five birdies in a row to close the front-nine as well as a closing eagle. Despite starting the round a whopping 11 shots off the lead, he was able to climb all the way into the top-5 for his best result of the year. Schmid ranked third for the week in SG: Off-the tee and fifth in putting.
Hidalgo Portillo defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff to win the acciona Open de Espana after shooting a round of one-under 70 on Sunday.
Hidalgo Portillo was in command of the tournament for much of the week, but Sunday was a challenge as expected. He was two-over-par after his first seven holes, but was able to get back on track with back-to-back birdies on 8 and 9. Hidalgo Portillo made another birdie on 14, but it was all pars otherwise on the back-nine while Rahm birdied the last two holes to force a playoff. Hidalgo Portillo showed no signs of nerves in the playoff matching Rahm with a birdie on the first extra hole and then making another birdie on the second playoff hole to notch his first career DP World Tour victory. The 26-year-old now moves up to 18th in the Race to Dubai standings and will hope to keep things rolling at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He is not far off from earning a PGA Tour card for 2025.
Norgaard fired an eight-under 64 in the final round to finish in a tie for seventh place at the BMW PGA Championship.
Norgaard fell out of contention with a 75 in round three which included four bogeys and two doubles. The Dane bounced back in a big way with the low round of the day on Sunday that included a pair of eagles on the back-nine. Norgaard stays eighth in the Race to Dubai standings and is in good position to lock up a PGA Tour card for 2025.
